Sarah Elizabeth Blakemore‘s father-in-law; probably NOT Hannah’s biological Grandfather.

Birth: 1825 in Blackburn, Lancashire, the son of Grace and Thomas. Lived in or near Blackburn all his life.

Marriage: He married Catharine Sandham on 31 October 1848 in Blackburn.

Birth of son: John Thomas Hoghton, Sarah Blakemore’s future husband was born 9 Nov 1849, still in Blackburn

1851 census: John Frederick, Catherine and John Thomas were living at 23 Spring Gardens, Blackburn with a widowed lodger called Titus Wade. Both John senior and Titus were joiners.

Birth of son: Their second son, Frederick, was was born 17 May 1854

1861 census: All four family members plus a servant and two boarders were living at 67 Leyland Street, Blackburn, Lancashire, England,

Death of son: Frederick died in the Summer of 1869 aged 15; the family were living in Victoria Street.

1871 census: The remaining three family members were at 42 Anvil Street. John senior was unemployed. John junior was working as a joiner.

Marriage of son: on 17th January 1876 John Thomas (living in Dugdale Street) married Sarah Elizabeth Blakemore (living in Leyland Street). The streets are close, which explains how they met once Sarah was living in Blackburn.

Death of wife: John Frederick’s wife Catherine died in the October of 1878.

1881 census: He was living in Clarence Street, Lower Darwen, (about a mile from his surviving son John Thomas and John Thomas’s wife Sarah.) He was listed as Widower, and living as “Boarder” at this address He was working as a Cotton Loomer, not Joiner. John junior was also not working as a Joiner – was this a dificult time for the family and / or wider community?

Death: He died of Bronchitis on 14th March 1891 at 54 Hazel Street, Blackburn. His son was present at the death and living at the same address. This is the same street where Charles Blakemore died in 1894.
