Emily Blakemore

Emily Blakemore

Next sibling up to Sarah Elizabeth; the assorted wood clan can be followed (

Marries a widower with 7 children & has four more with him; dies at 44. Another way of surviving as a Victorian working class woman!

Born in St Albans Q1 1855 (not baptised?), about 5 when they move to Birmingham, 7 when her mother dies and father remarries.

1871 census she’s a “general servant” for a family (Edward Solomon, factor and clothier – stereotypes!!) on the Pershore Road, Edgbaston (7ish kids plus a nurse too).

6th March 1881 she marries Alfred Joseph Wood; (Harriet, his 1st wife was admitted to the Birmigham lunatic asylum on 4th August 1871; she died 11th feb 1881….presumably Emily & Alfred were waiting!) (but she seems to have 3 children over this time – was she in and out?!) Or have I got the wrong Harriet Wood?

insert lunacy register snippet? the numbers are really high – there’s a story here.

Marriage thing is smudged and hard to read – he’s a steel toy?? she’s a slaker?? he’s at 20 Tyndall st, she’s as bk95 camden st. Charles is a bricklayer.

1881 csnsus shes at 20 tyndall st with 6 step children. (does this ovelap with Amelia and the home for fallen women?)

3 children – baptism show 20 tyndall st

1891 still at tyndall st, Ernest wood born 1892, she dies Q1 1900 at 44
