Marian Payne
Ralph’s oldest sister Marian / Marion was born on 16th February 1907 at the back of 28 Garbett Street and baptised at St Paul’s in March (any other links to this?). She lived here all her life, dying aged 23.
She was included on the 1930 electoral roll for this address after becoming eligible to vote in 1928.

She died on 28th August 1930 at 77 Dudley Road (workhouse/ hospital / infirmary – what was it by 1930?) of “Pachymeningitis Cerviculis”, “Hypertrophia” and “Specific Infection”. The first two sound both rare and painful. She was working as a polisher at ??”Eremid” works. Her brother, James Leonard, registered the death and she is buried in Key Hill Cemetery, plot 228L. This is a public grave, which means that it contains xx graves, stacked on top of each other to a depth of ??. Each plot has a marker where the names of those buried there could be engraved for an additional £xx; Marian’s name is not there.
(Key Hill is a non-conformist cemetry; am I sure she was baptised CoE??)
Pretty sure she was named after her Aunt, Marian Jenkins, who was a witness at Florence and James’ wedding and who emgirated to Canada.
